Lytro calls this the “Picture Revolution” and if they can make it marketable they’re right. Their camera captures all information about a scene so you can process it later. Like you can choose your focus point after you take the picture. It’s crazy, and you can try it yourself by clicking on different areas in the photo below. First seen on Mashable so check them out for more details.

I had to secure some new photography gear for my trip to Africa. My Nikon D1, which I took with me to South Africa in 2001, simply wouldn’t cut it this time around (My phone has a better sensor). It’s also the last DSLR I purchased because I moved over to using rangefinder cameras with the introduction of the Epson R-D1. I was in trouble. More...

Shutterbug is an impromptu photography club that some friends of mine started. Each week one person in the club suggests a subject, and we take pictures focusing on that subject.
Shoes: Eyelet
The eyelet of a pair of shoes. The photo is black and white and I pushed the contrast a lot to bring out the texture in the metal. The shot was taken with a 120mm lens combined with a 56mm tube extension, which allowed me bring my camera within about two inches of the eyelet. This was taken in bright sunlight.
Shoes: Bare Feet
The subject of this assignment was "Shoes". Here are my feet without them. The picture looks like it is black and white, but it's not. I took this shot with my feet propped up against a window. The background is sky, and I metered off of my feet and underexposed by two stops. This created a stark over/underexposed contrast that made the photo look like it is monochrome.
Shoes: Leather
Another closeup of a shoe, but this time I focused on the leather. This is a color photo but has very little saturation so it only has a hint of the red leather. I pushed the contrast again to bring out the grain in the leather. This was taken with the same lens setup as "Eyelet".
Reflections: Emp
The subject of this assignment was "Reflections". This is a shot of the back of the Experience Music Project. The sun was low on the horizon and it was reflecting off of the purple metalic surface onto the silver. I increased the color saturation just a bit to bring out the colors a little more.
Reflections: Tree
Another picture of the EMP. I walk by this window a lot and I'm always drawn to the reflections in it. The EMP is in the middle of a fairly treeless downtown, but there is always one tree that this window reflects. I like that the window mirrors the shape of the tree. I focused on the tree, rather than the window.
Reflections: Needle
Fisher Plaza has a wonderful glass tower that reflects the space needle. I think there are some better shots that I can get from this building because it faces due west. At sundown I suspect there should be some great sunset reflections on this building, but, sundown is Bar Time and I generally don't bring a camera. Contrast was pushed a bit to intensify the space needle in the reflection.

Pictures of natural landscapes, and the occasional rabid squirrel.
Leaf
A leaf with its own swimming pool.
Tulip
A little happy flower.
Pink Flower
Another happy flower. I really like the shallow depth of field here. It makes the background look almost abstract.
Squirrel
Quick! What is it? It's a rabid squirrel. Run!
Concrete Tree
This tree is just starting to bud. Behind it is a dead ivy attached to Seattle's Alaskan Way Viaduct. I really like the stark contrast between the two.
Blue Tree
Tree. I took this on a beautiful day at Whistler, BC. The original photo is quite beautiful, but I monkied with the contrast a bit and got a little more depth out of it. The more I look at this the more I feel that trees look better right side up.

Most of these are unrecognizable, but they look cool!
Whale
This is a gray whale I shot at the Point Defiance zoo. It is underwater, and the glare and refraction from the water makes it difficult to make out the whale. I vastly manipulated the contrast here to make things look more surreal.
Color Eggshell
I like this concrete eggshell in color, especially here with the blue sky and the rust-colored concrete.
